The Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships are some of the most exciting and high-profile events in which Hockey Alberta’s membership takes part each season, bringing together the top teams from across the province in each category. The thrill of playing in this exciting event makes hosting a Hockey Alberta Provincial Championship tournament a unique and special opportunity.
There are 28 events, starting the weekend of March 21, 2024 and are open for bidding ranging from categories of U13 to U18. Deadline for bids to be received is November 15. The bid guidelines document, along with the schedule of championships can be downloaded from the Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships page.
In total, 34 Provincial Champions will be crowned at the end of this year. Over three weekends, 30 divisions will battle it out in a tournament style format while league play will determine four champions.
The tournaments begin the weekend of March 21-24, and carry on for three consecutive weeks until April 4-7. Below is a breakdown of events during each week:
Most Minor Tiered and Minor Female events will feature eight teams - the host, wild card(s) and the champions from each division’s respective leagues: Hockey Calgary, Edmonton Federation Hockey League, Central Alberta Hockey League, All Peace Hockey League, North Eastern Alberta Hockey League, Rocky Mountain Female Hockey League, and East Central Female Hockey League.
Week one will feature the most events with 17, with a large majority of them taking place in the U13 and U15 divisions. Week two features 11 events, most of which will be in the U18 division. Junior B Male and U17 AAA will be the only events on the April 4-7 weekend, while four champions will be decided via playoffs.
